Transnationalism, parenting, and child disciplinary practices of African immigrants in Alberta, Canada
This article focuses on the parental disciplinary practices of African migrants in Alberta, Canada. The authors themselves are members of the immigrant community and so were better able to research these practices in a supportive and reflexive manner.
MHADRI Bibliometric project
A pilot bibliometric training workshop will be held in Manila, Philippines in November 2019, with the aim of engaging scholars from the South Asian region to build their skills and capacities to undertake such bibliometric analysis.
Opportunity to participate in identifying key migration and health research priorities
A Delphi will be conducted among MHADRI members, aiming to identify key research priorities and research questions on migration and health at subnational, national, sub-regional, regional and global levels.
Access and utilization of mental health services for immigrants and refugees: Perspectives of immigrant service providers
This paper focuses on migrant services for mental health in Alberta, Canada. The authors argue that health providers perceive several challenges to access and utilization of services, including stigma, language barriers, and cultural ideas about mental health. Service providers adopt different strategies to better provide for their patients in response to these different barriers.
MHADRI network evaluation
We are currently embarking on an evaluation of the MHADRI network, taking stock of where we are in 2019. With the support of MA student intern Tinyiko Sithole, we will share the key lessons learned and use these to inform the way forward for the MHADRI network into 2020.
Global mapping of migration & health training & capacity building
This initiative is conducting a global mapping of actors, agencies and networks engaged in delivering training and capacity building/developing programmes in the field of migration and health. The aim is to develop a baseline understanding of work that is being done, by whom and where.
Nutrition among children of migrant construction workers in Ahmedabad, India
In this paper, the authors determine the causes of undernutrition in children of migrant construction workers in Ahmedabad, India. The work builds on a UNICEF framework of undernutrition (shown in featured image), focusing specifically on the middle level of underlying causes.
