Research & Expertise

Between 2022-2023 I was a co-investigator in a UNICEF Zimbabwe commissioned study titled “Children on the Move in Zimbabwe”. This national study investigated the lived experiences, migratory journeys, the victimhood/agency binary and contact with services among unaccompanied minors in Zimbabwe. The study was a collaboration between University of Zimbabwe, University of KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and Fafo research Institute (Norway). I have published on various topics relating to child protection and development, including policy and legal frameworks on child migration in Zimbabwe and South Africa. I am currently finalizing a joint PhD in Public Health (University of Essex) and Migration and Displacement (University of Witwatersrand). My thesis examines the intersection of masculinities and child agency in determining unaccompanied migrant boys’ access to health care. My doctoral research work is situated in a wider study funded by the National Institute of Health (UK) being undertaken within the Global Health Research Group on disrupting the cycle of gendered violence and poor mental health among migrants in precarious situations (GEMMS).
