Miracle Adesina

I am a public health researcher working at the intersection of migration health, forced displacement, and global mental health, with a particular focus on internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and conflict-affected populations in sub-Saharan Africa. My research spans epidemiology, implementation science, and digital health, with an emphasis on improving health equity in fragile and humanitarian settings. I have authored and co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, including work in high-impact international journals such as The Lancet, The Lancet Regional Health – Africa, The Lancet Rheumatology, The Lancet Infectious Diseases, The Lancet Neurology, The Lancet Oncology, and Journal of Migration and Health. My research contributions include participation in large-scale Global Burden of Disease (GBD) analyses and collaborative international epidemiological studies covering mental health, infectious diseases, and health system inequalities. A significant proportion of my work focuses on migration- and displacement-related health challenges, particularly: Mental health outcomes among internally displaced persons in Nigeria, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use Psychosocial impacts of conflict, terrorism, and forced displacement on vulnerable populations Community-based and task-shifting mental health interventions in IDP settings (e.g., Brave Heart Programme) Health service access barriers in humanitarian and fragile contexts, including maternal health, immunization, and HIV prevention among displaced populations Digital and AI-enabled mental health tools for low-resource and crisis-affected settings My research also integrates sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, disability inclusion, and health systems strengthening within migration and humanitarian contexts. I have contributed to policy-relevant studies on vaccination uptake, maternal and child health, and health inequities among vulnerable and mobile populations. My work is supported by reputable funders such as Wellcome Trust, Grand Challenges Canada, Being Initiative Gilead, Dovetail Impact Foundation, EU Global Youth Mobilization among others and has been presented at major international conferences, including Africa CDC CPHIA Conference, ICASA, International AIDS Society meetings, Oxford Global Health & Bioethics Conference, Consortium of Universities for Global Health, etc. I have also contributed to implementation research and community-led interventions funded and supported through partnerships with non-governmental and research organizations including the Slum and Rural Health Initiative (SRHIN) and related global health collaborators. Overall, my research program is focused on advancing equitable, evidence-based migration health policy and practice, with a strong commitment to strengthening health systems for displaced, migrant, and conflict-affected populations in low- and middle-income countries.
