I work at the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. I work at the Center for Global Health Studies, which identifies emerging research priorities, stimulates new scientific directions in global health, and supports multidisciplinary collaboration and short-term training to address pressing global health problems. Our group recently launched a project on Conducting Health Research in Humanitarian Crises, for which we are bringing together researchers, humanitarian organizations, and policymakers to explore ways of catalyzing more and better health research and encouraging the uptake of evidence in humanitarian policy and practice. We are currently taking a broad look at this issue, across different health areas (i.e. mental health, infectious diseases, SRH, non-communicable diseases, etc.), different types of crises (conflict, forced displacement, natural disasters, and outbreaks), and geographies (focusing on low- and middle-income countries). We also expect to focus on a handful of cross-cutting themes: research methodologies, implementation science, research capacity, humanitarian-researcher partnerships, and the inclusion of affected populations in research.
